What does Ketogenic mean? If you haven’t heard, this low carb way of eating has been known to help people lose weight, increase energy, stay focused, and just plain feel good. It has also been said to help lessen the effects of epilepsy, diabetes, bipolar disorder, and even Alzheimer’s.
By cutting carbohydrates like grains, starches, and sugar, a ketogenic diet will help stabilize hormonal balance and blood sugar levels. If done properly it will help cut cravings to end the downward spiral of eating junk food and feeling bloated.
There are differing theories on the right way to go ketogenic. Some say, low carb, high protein - is the way to go. Others promote low carb, but high fat, with moderate amounts of protein. I personally believe that there is no one-size-fits-all, and you should do what works for your body type. Some people strictly count their macros every day, others prefer to keep things loose and follow the general guidelines. Some monitor their electrolytes (ie sodium and magnesium intake) with supplements and things like sole water. Others find that they are fine with the amounts they can get from food. I encourage you to do what works for you.
In any case, there has been an explosion of interest in a ketogenic diet in recent years. As someone who has seen my friends and family personally affected by health conditions like diabetes, obesity, epilepsy, and dementia, I encourage anyone to do some research and try this way of eating to see how it can help you.
I personally hate the word “diet” because crash diets never work, but a healthy ketogenic lifestyle can help you feel good for years down the road.

The toughest part for me, was that sometimes I just need something sweet. Food is an important part of life. For me, it’s a nice way to enjoy my Saturday after a rough week and a great way to celebrate special occasions with my loved ones. I spent many hours in the kitchen striving to find a way to blend my keto passion with my love of baking.
Check back as I continue share my personal experiences and some helpful tips and tricks for a ketogenic lifestyle.
